World Mental Health Awareness Day

World Mental Health Awareness Day- Policy21st

What Is Mental Health?

Mental health is a condition of mental wellness that helps people manage the stresses of life, develop their potential, study and work effectively. It is an essential component of health and well-b0eing that supports our individual and group ability to decide, form connections, and influence our world. Mental health is a basic human right important for socioeconomic, social, and personal development.

The absence of mental disorders is only one aspect of mental wellness. It occurs in a complicated range having various levels of difficulty and suffering experienced differently by each individual, and may have diverse social and therapeutic implications.

Mental health issues include psychosocial impairments, mental illnesses, and other mental states linked to high levels of suffering, physical limitations, or risk of self-harm. Although this is not always true, people with mental health disorders are more likely to have lower levels of mental well-being.

What Is Mental Health Awareness?

Mental health awareness refers to the effort to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and other mental health disorders by sharing our own experiences. Many people experience mental illness in secret and without receiving proper care due to the assumptions regarding mental health and mental fitness. Therefore, an important social effort is needed to raise understanding and access to healthcare.

Why is Mental Health Awareness Important?

Mental health awareness is not about only having conversations with people suffering from mental illness. It completely affects our social, emotional, physical, and cognitive well-being.

Unfortunately, a lot of people do not get the therapy they need because mental health is stigmatized. Some people are not even aware that there is therapy. These people suffer silently and face loneliness and disenfranchisement. We lose out on their genius.

Each and every suicide is heartbreaking and has a huge financial cost. Not only does it justify financial losses, but it is also stressful for the surviving family members of the deceased. We can never completely know how our efforts will affect other people, but if spreading mental health awareness will save just one life, it will have been worth it.

10th October - World Mental Health Awareness Day

October 10 is celebrated as World Mental Health Awareness Day every year. It is a day set aside internationally to promote mental health education, public awareness, and social stigma reduction. The World Federation for Mental Health, a worldwide mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries, led the inaugural celebration in 1992. On this day in October each year, thousands of supporters gather to celebrate this yearly awareness campaign to raise awareness of mental illness and its significant negative effects on people’s lives all around the world. Additionally, this day gives mental health experts a chance to talk about and put light on their work, bringing mental health to a global issue.

Policy21st Suggests 3 Ideas For Mental Health Awareness

An important aspect of mental health awareness is to learn to talk and share about mental health. We encourage prejudices to go on when we remain silent on mental health and fitness. This silence makes it more challenging for people to put their own mental health first. Let us have an overview of these three suggestions for mental health awareness-

1- Be A Voice For Yourself

Do you see someone taking a day off for mental health? How frequently do you observe them being honest about it? Many of us feel like our physical health is more important than our mental health.

When we are ill, we take a day off from work, but not when we are emotionally spent or physically exhausted. The next time you take a vacation, tell your fellow employees straight away that you are doing it for your mental health. You may encourage people to stand up for their mental health by engaging in self-advocacy. This will definitely motivate others to follow your example.

2- Do Some Study On Mental Health

Spend some time learning about mental fitness and wellness and more than that learn to differentiate between these two terms. Discover the symptoms of stress, typical mental health issues, and how to look after yourself if you start to experience symptoms.

This will help you to look over your own warning signals when you are beginning to become triggered or overwhelmed. You can also share any resources you come across with people around you if it can benefit them in any way.

3- Talk To An Advisor

You should talk to an advisor and learn to share your incidents, no matter if you are talking to your manager, coworker, or someone from outside the department. Following the culture of personal development and valuing your mental health should be maintained. It is okay to set aside some time for your inner self to make your outer self more strong and sustainable.
